Workshop 6:
Thought Surfer

Navigate uncomfortable emotions as you would surf on a wave in the ocean. Kids learn to be aware of automatic thinking patterns and begin to build coping mechanisms by learning to see an uncomfortable emotional state as temporary.

Workshop Details

Children learn to be aware of automatic thinking patterns and begin to build coping mechanisms by learning to see an uncomfortable emotional state as temporary. We open this workshop by guiding them through an exercise that helps them observe their thoughts and use a self-regulation technique to "catch" them. Children will engage in an art activity to learn how to name their worries and separate them from themselves.

For Ages: 7-11

Date: TBD

Time: 1pm - 2:30pm

Workshop price includes all materials and supplies.

  • I ask that parents arrive 15 minutes prior to the workshop start time to ensure kids have time to get comfortable in the space and we are able to start on time. If you arrive late, not a problem I will make sure your child can jump in.

  • Parents are not required to stay with their child and participate in the workshop. Though you are welcome to stay and observe. I do ask that parents be available via cell phone for the duration of the workshop should there be any unexpected issues or your child wishes to leave early.

  • Of course. Simply use the quantity button at checkout to select the number of children you would like to register.

  • I understand life happens and schedules can change. If your child is unable to attend a workshop for any reason simply email or call as soon as possible. Refunds will be made up to 48 hours prior to the workshop.

Why register?

Social-emotional competence in childhood acts as a building block to support an individual throughout one's life. Art-based interventions and mindful awareness strategies can help build an adaptive emotional regulation response.

The overarching goal is to be a catalyst for change, to use art as a medium to enhance the emotional intelligence of the next generation, to make it, CRATE.
