BUG HUNT HQ

ASK YOURSELF, WHAT BUGS ME?

The Science

Fill in the blank: It bugs me when_____________.

Pay attention to your triggers; identify what causes you to feel angry. Name the place, situation, or person's behavior that bugs you. Perhaps you are tired, hungry or frustrated.

Figuring out the reason can help you to discover what you need to feel better, calm you, or make you feel safe.

The Calming Technique:
Centering Object

Squash what bugs you by using a centering object small enough to fit in your pocket (for example, a small stuffed animal, a polished rock, or a fidget toy).

  1. Hold the object in your hand when you experience frustration. Focus your attention on it. Observe it through the senses. Notice the physical attributes, texture of the surface, and weight of the object between your fingers.

  2. No object? No problem, place your hands in your pocket. Use your thumb to investigate the ridges of your hand. Concentrate on the sensation of your skin pressed against the fabric.

  3. Craft your own centering object at Bug Hunt HQ.
